Importance of Vitamins

Vitamins are non-caloric organic nutrients they perform a plethora of roles in the body. Vitamins have so much importance in our body many people overlook the importance of vitamins but deficiency of vitamins can be harmful to the body. Our body cannot produce vitamins so definitely we have to get these vitamins from different food sources. Vitamins are usually needed in a very small amount but perform many functions in the body. Vitamins are also known as facilitators they  help in digestion, metabolism, proper growth, and absorption.

Some vitamins appear as pro vitamins or precursors in food and provide benefits to the body abundantly. The importance of vitamins in our body can never be overlooked it helps our body to develop and builds the immunity of the body.

Two types of vitamins exist and both of these kinds of vitamins are pretty important in our body. They have been classified based on solubility.

  1. Water-soluble vitamins
  2. Fat-soluble vitamins

Water-soluble vitamins include vitamin B and C whereas, fat-soluble vitamins include vitamin A, D, E, and K. Water-soluble vitamins directly get absorb in the bloodstream and they do not store in the body and also do not have any toxicity.

Water-soluble vitamins are mostly found in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and meat.

Alcohol increases the elimination of vitamins and smoking dramatically decreases its absorption as well. Therefore, those who smoke and those who drink alcohol too much mostly suffer from vitamin deficiency and if its deficiency is not treated on time then it leads to various disorders.

There are other subtypes of vitamin B such as:

  • Vitamin B1 also known as Thiamin
  • Vitamin B2 also known as Riboflavin
  • Vitamin B3 also known as Niacin
  • Vitamin B5 known as Pantothenic Acid
  • Vitamin B6 known as Pyridoxin
  • Vitamin B7 known as Biotin
  • Vitamin B8 known as Inositol
  • Vitamin B9 known as Folate
  • Vitamin B10 known as Aminobenzoic Acid
  • Vitamin B11 known as Pteryl-hepta-glutamine acid
  • Vitamin B12 known as Cobalamin

Each of these vitamins has importance in our body.

  • Vitamin A is known as Beta Carotene
  • Vitamin D has two forms Vitamin D2 and Vitamin D3 come from plant origin and
  • animal origin respectively.
  • Vitamin E
  • Vitamin K
